Thirunnal Flag Hoisting
For 13 days, members of our Chicago Malankara church traveled to the Holy Land for a holy pilgrimage. From November 7-20, they traveled the countries of Jordan, Israel, Palestine, and Egypt.
His Excellency Dr. Thomas Mar Eusebius made his pastoral visit on the weekend of Friday, October 14, 2016. On Friday, his Excellency met with the MCYM at 6:30 pm at the Jesus Youth residence. On Saturday the 15th, a family prayer meeting was held at the residence of Mr. Pramod Zacharias and family; it was led by Bishop Mar Eusebius. On Sunday, all the church members gathered at the front doors of the church and Mar Eusebius gave a liturgical reception. Morning prayer was next followed by the Holy Qurbono at 11 am.
On Saturday, July 25, 2015, Sisters Mariam, Ivan, and Sloosa (SIC) of the Bethany Convent requested our Chicago Malankara family to celebrate the Bethany feast. The evening consisted of evening prayer at 6 pm followed by the Holy Qurbono at 6:30 pm. After the Holy Qurbono, the Sisters provided dinner for all the guests.
From August 6-9, 2015, the Syro Malankara Catholic Church conducted its ninth family convention at the National Conference Center in Leesburg, Virgina.
On Sunday, July 7th, 2015, Rev. Dr. Jacob Thekkeparambil led a Syriac Study, the second of its type, with the MCYM members at the Jesus Youth house in Roselle, IL. After evening prayers, dinner, and an initial immersion into the area of Syriac Studies, students learned to write the letters of the Syriac alphabet. We especially thank Fr. Jacob who passionately teaches us about our rich heritage and faith tradition.
On June 27th 2015, the Chicago Malankara Catholic Church conducted their fourth basketball tournament. This is a tournament that involves sportsmanship from the multiple Malayalee churches in Chicago. Along with the tournament, our MCYM members incorporated a bake sale to raise funds for the charity Sneha Veedu. The bake sale ranged from home-baked brownies, cookies, cupcakes, granola bars, puppy chow, fruits, and energy drinks.
On Friday, May 22, 2015, the MCYM youth gathered together for Friday Night Light (FNL), a youth gathering that reflects on life's journey in the light of faith. The focus of this gathering was on Faith Life and the College Experience. Talks were prepared and led by older MCYM youth (Lejoe Joseph, Minoy Varghese, Alena Thomas, Jessa Varghese), followed by a time of discussion through a Q&A session.
